After a nineteen-month demolition and construction period, the long-awaited opening of the California Street Parking Garage has arrived.  The six-story garage, which is part of the Block 7 project in Downtown Redding, features 400 parking stalls, electric vehicle chargers, an elevator, solar shade structures, and spectacular views of the Redding horizon.  The garage is owned by a partnership between The McConnell Foundation and K2 Development Companies.

To commemorate the opening of this important community asset, all partners involved in the financing, design, and construction of the project will celebrate with a ribbon cutting ceremony on the top floor of the garage on Friday, May 6th, at 12:00 PM.  Members of the public are welcome to attend the event and park in the structure for the first time.

Shannon Phillips, Chief Operating Officer of The McConnell Foundation, stated “ We are pleased the wait is over and anticipate that the opening of the beautiful new garage will be embraced by those who live, work and play in the downtown core.”

The garage was built by Modern Building, Inc. with a substantial portion of the work completed by Conco Commercial Concrete Contractors.  The garage was designed by Arkansas-based Modus Studios and Bay Area-based DMARC Studio.  The metal siding of the garage consists of artistically-placed Corten steel panels that are designed to oxidize over time to develop a unique patina that matches the warm reddish hue of Redding’s natural soils.

Prior to the May 6th opening date, the parking garage will “ soft open ” to the public on Thursday, April 28th.  There will be no charge for parking until June 1st in appreciation of the community’ s patience during the construction of the parking structure.  Further announcements on the parking rates, monthly passes, and other parking amenities will be published closer to June 1st.
