This article is sponsored by Continental Steel & Tube, a trusted provider of specialty titanium, stainless steel, aluminum, steel, nickel, bronze, and brass metals.

Various industries such as aerospace, military, automotive, medical, and more rely on quality metal materials for a range of products. Depending on the needs of the application, the metal required may be difficult to find. Continental Steel & Tube Company is a supplier and distributor of titanium, nickel, brass, stainless steel, aluminum, and steel materials. With an expert technical staff and reputation as a well-respected specialty metal supplier, Continental Steel can help its customers get the exact materials they need, all under one roof.

“When projects require different grades of metal for different components, you usually have to go to multiple vendors to get all the grades you need,” says Adam Ascone, president of carbon, steel, and nickel sales at Continental Steel. “Most vendors specialize in anywhere from two to five grades of a particular metal. At Continental Steel, we can provide you with everything you need, all in one spot.”

With decades of experience, Continental Steel understands the requirements of various industries and can provide a wide range of metals that meet the needed specifications. Whether you need hard-to-find metals or specialty materials with specific size requirements, Continental Steel has the capabilities to deliver the solution you need.

Continental Steel can perform grinding and other value-added services to deliver materials that meet the exact needs of its customers.

The company is ISO 9001:2015 and AS9120B:2016-registered, and they have been a recognized leader in the supply and distribution of superior metals since 1985.

Continental Steel can supply metals for a wide range of industries, including oil and gas, construction, military, industrial, medical, automotive, and marine.

Adam Ascone (AA): I would say one of the biggest things that set us apart from the competition is our cost-effectiveness and diversity. We’re very specialized in aluminum, nickel, and titanium grades that are hard to find. We can also provide everything you might need on a construction site: beams, channels, and other components like that.

I always like to say that we’re not just selling the material, we’re also selling expertise and service. Our customers continue to come back to us because we provide a place for them to get multiple items and talk to experts about all the projects they have. It’s not that common to have a company that has someone who specializes in aluminum, someone who specializes in nickel, and someone who specializes in titanium.

Regardless of the industry you’re working in, you will have someone from our company that you can talk to about various materials and technical specifications. We’re willing to talk to our customers and go the extra mile to get their projects done, even if it’s beyond what another company would do.

AA: The main questions we get are about the product itself. For example, we often get asked about the origin of the material we can provide. Whether customers want domestic materials or to import materials at a cheaper price, we can help with that.

Some of our customers have restrictions regarding the country of origin for their materials. For example, certain customers want aluminum or titanium from China, whereas other customers are looking for U.S.-made products. This is especially true for the aerospace industry because all aircraft components must be domestic or compliant with DFARS. Since we have access and a solid understanding of the market, we know exactly where to find the correct material for our customers.

AA: We have a special clip that we make for an aerospace company. This company doesn’t buy it, but they spec it and have other people that buy it. It’s a little small clip made from copper wire that goes into space. This company has specified us on the print, so whenever someone wants to purchase this product, they come to us.

AA: When it comes to aluminum, if someone needs a certain thickness that’s not a typical stock thickness, we can meet those needs. We have the plates and can turn them into the size they need while meeting all the required specifications and ensuring quick delivery. Also, if you’re looking for any kind of specialty tubing, we can make the tube as a prototype run so you can avoid the large quantities and long lead times associated with bigger mills. We can provide faster turnaround times for specialty items.

When engineers need specific sizes for projects, it’s not uncommon for purchasing people to call us and say it’s impossible to find what they need. To help with this, one of our solutions is that we can grind and perform various other processes on the material to meet the exact size requirements while maintaining tight tolerances.
